Welcome to Great Wells Cottages

The cottages nestle in the grounds of Great Wells, a New Forest Country House set in eight tranquil acres of land in the prime location of Burley. The long driveway off a quiet village lane takes you over the cattle grid and through the paddocks to your destination.

Situated in one of the best positions in the New Forest, yet not remote, the village centre with its various inns, restaurants and shops is only a ten-minute walk along the lane or across the forest. Burley also has a bicycle hire shop, horse drawn wagon rides, riding stables and a golf course, there is a hawk and owl centre just outside the village.

The New Forest is an area well known for its wonderful walking and you can do this directly from your door. It is also a haven for deer, fox, badger and buzzards and of course, the New Forest ponies. You may be lucky to see the rare Dartford Warbler on one of your walks. Our friendly resident cats and horses are ready to welcome you and are always ready for a pat or a carrot!

Wonderful beaches (some blue flag) and harbours are within a short 15 to 20 minute drive. There are plenty of attractions nearby to keep the children occupied such as Beaulieu with its national motor museum, The Otter and wildlife Park at Marchwood and Paultons Park and Pepper Pig World at Ower. The large towns of Bournemouth and Southampton have theatres, cinemas and shopping malls and are within half an hours drive. If you have time take a boat across to the Isle of Wight for an enjoyable day trip.

The Dairy and Garden cottages are set in the enchantingly beautiful area known as the New Forest National Park a perfect location for that special break or holiday. The vast woodlands and moorlands stretch in all directions and are home to many species of rare and unusual flora and fauna. It is hard to imagine a more special place, we feel so privileged to live here, why don’t you come and stay and share the experience too!

From the guest letters –
